Shaggy's anti-HIV message
Shaggy taped an anti-HIV pro-safe sex message for MTV's Staying Alive (he recently also did an anti-HIV pro-safe sex song "A Nuh U, A Nuh Me" with Ninja Man on the Big Yard Riddim). For more information on Staying Alive and what you can do, go to the Staying Alive web site, Shaggy's message is also there at the blog and at Vlog It.

July 30 Part III - Intoxication International album and Sumfest pic
Were you as curious as I was reading the Jamaica Observer's description of the Reggae Sumfest 2007 in Jamaica (see my July 22 post)? Well, there's at least one picture online right now, more will follow on several other sites. Pic of Shaggy, Ninja Man and more.
Shaggy's new album Intoxication might be released in Japan on August 8, other countries might follow later in August or even later this year. Although most sources write Intoxication will be released internationally near the end of August, a couple of German music stores now have Intoxication slated for release in the second week of October! I don't know how much the track listings (bonus tracks) will be different, but I'm sure more information will be available some time or another.

And that's not all. You can listen to Can't Hold Me, which isn't online anywhere else as of yet, at the same page. So far I've heard 9 of the other songs of the new album at least partly on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Dancehall Vibes and more and they all sound very good, I really like this tune as well! You can watch the Church Heathen and Reggae Vibes video there as well.
July 30 - Shaggy TV Alerts
Triveneta TV Italy Recap of Rototom Sunsplash
The Italian TV station Triveneta TV will have a daily 120 minutes recap of Rototom Sunsplash (where Shaggy, Rayvon, Na'Sha and Tony Gold performed as well) from today, Monday July 30, to Friday August 10 (weekdays only). Since Shaggy performed on the last day of the Rototom Sunsplash reggae festival, I think he'll be on tv on August 10 but of course I'm not sure of that.
If you don't get Triveneta TV, you can also watch the program featuring part of Shaggy's concert and an interview here (external resources).
Direct 8 France Splash Dance
The French Direct 8 TV is broadcasting a dancing show from the beaches of St. Tropez, every Tuesday to Friday night at 20.10h (repeated at midnight and later at 17.30h). Shaggy will be one of the guests in this 40 shows program (I can't tell you yet on what date).
MTV Japan Shaggy Special
MTV Japan will broadcast a Shaggy special to celebrate his upcoming album Intoxication. An exclusive version of the Intoxication cd featuring Na'Sha, Rayvon, Sizzla Kalonji, Collie Buddz, Rik Rok, Tony Gold and Mischieve will be released in Japan on August 8 2007.
MTV Japan's Shaggy special will allow the audience to get an idea of what Grammy Award winner Shaggy's life is like, featuring his background, home and recording studio in Jamaica, his music and an interview.
The Shaggy special will air on
August 2 21.00-21.30h
August 3 19.00-19.30h
August 4 27.00-27.30h (or whatever that means)
August 6 12.00-12.30h
July 28 Part II - another new Shaggy song
Shaggy has a tune called "Video Light" featuring Voicemail on the new 2007 Big Yard "Gyal Whind Riddim", which, as the title of the riddim says, is also the background riddim of Shaggy's "Sexy Gyal Whind" (which you might know from his Ready Fi Di Ride / Sexy Gyal Whind single or as a bonus track on the UK release of the 2005 Clothes Drop album).
The song was said to be on Shaggy's 2007 forthcoming album Intoxication, but if you take a look at the track list of the Japanese version of Intoxication, it doesn't appear to be on there. Rayvon also has a tune on the Gyal Whind Riddim which is called "Fire Burning". Too bad Video Light is a Jamaican / Japanese release only, it sounds pretty cool!
July 28 - New Shaggy tour dates, new Big Yard website
The new Big Yard web site (Shaggy's label), is finally online! Go check it out!
They also published a list with more upcoming Shaggy concerts and performances in 2007 than I knew about, so dates and places courtesy of Big Yard Music.com, additional info and links by shaggy.v3x.biz:
If there are no links present at the concert descriptions it means there is no further information available at this time / TBA. Thanks Marin for the email letting me know he found the renewed Big Yard site.
July 27 Part II - Shaggy's 2007 Caymand Islands press conference
Shaggy, Rayvon, Rik Rok, JG and Notch did a press conference yesterday at the Cayman Islands and a lot of photos are online. Go check them out! Same gallery here, here and here.
July 27 - Shaggy to headline Jamaican Independence Sunday Market festivities
In August, Jamaica will be an independent country for 45 years and celebrations are set also in the U.S., Canda and the U.K. to mark this independence anniversary. Shaggy will headline the annual Independence Sunday Market, a market that displays Jamaica's cultural heritage, art and music. The all-day Jamaican festival takes place on the lawns of the Organization of American States in Washington D.C. on August 5. Source.
Shaggy, Rayvon, Rik Rok, Kiprich as well as local artists JG, Andrea Rivera, and Notch will perform at the Cable and Wireless Red Stripe Summer Fest 2007 at the Cayman Islands. On Thursday July 26 there'll be a VIP Party that the artists will attend. The main concert by Shaggy, Rayvon, Rik Rok, Kiprich and others will be taking place on Friday July 27.
The Japanese "Oldies but Badies" mixtape by DJ Maximum, containing 80s and 90s dubplates, has a song by Shaggy & Rayvon that's called "Baka". I've never heard of the song (I guess there are still a lot of unknown Shaggy songs out there that aren't known to many) so I wonder if this a dub version of "Big Up" that the people who released the album call "Baka" or indeed a dubbed version of a yet unknown song. If you know... you tell me [contact [at] shaggy.v3x.biz]! [edit] How about a dub version of Angel and Church Heathen ;)?
July 22 Part II - 10th Annual Sea Breeze Festival, Reggae Sumfest, another Rototom Sunsplash live video
Shaggy performed two nights ago on Evolution Night of the Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica, as well as LL Cool J, Buju Banton, Morgan Heritage, Allison Hinds, Da'Ville, Cherine Anderson, Christopher Martin and Alaine. Shaggy, dressed tropically (sorry no pic yet, I wanna see what that means as well:)), performed Church Heathen, Wild 2Nite, Bashment Party, Angel, Strength of a Woman, It Wasn't Me and Hey Sexy Lady together with Rayvon and Rik Rok. You can read the first review of the show at the Observer.
July 22 - Shaggy and Twofingerz live in Hollywood, Milan
Shaggy and Italian artist Twofingerz performed in discotheque Hollywood in Milan, Italy a couple of weeks ago. They performed Church Heathen and Boombastic together, among others, and here's the video to prove it was a cool show (oh yeah, Dan-T from Twofingerz wrote on his blog that there'll probably more videos of the performance later on):
July 21 - Funkmaster Flex Custom Car & Bke Show and International Sneaker Battle
Shaggy will be present at today's Funkmaster Flex' Custom Car and Bike Show and the International Sneaker Battle in Hartford, Connecticut. According to theInternational Sneaker Battle site he will even be performing live!
You can listen to the show here. Edit: show is over, pop-up has been removed. So... did you enjoy the dancehall show and the two (or actually, three but two of them are BRAND NEW) Shaggy tracks of which one hadn't been mentioned or played anywhere else? Big up Danny for the shout out to us!
July 20 - New Shaggy songs
So... do you wanna hear the very, very latest Shaggy songs? Between 12 am and 2 pm CEST tomorrow (Saturday July 21) you'll get a live stream of the Dancehall Vibes show right here on this page which will play not ONE but TWO previously unplayed Shaggy songs (other than the ones that I wrote about last time). One of them is a new Shaggy song on the Panty Town a.k.a. Shanty Town Riddim (and it's not Yuh A Move Hype), the other one is a tune I'M SURE you haven't heard of, haven't read about or haven't heard before - I don't even know yet what riddim it is on, it's that new! So if you wanna hear the very newest Shaggy music, return to this site at 12 am CEST (Melbourne 2100 pm, London 1200 am, Kingston 0600 am, Dubai 1500 pm, New York 0700 am, Rome 1300 pm, more) tomorrow!
July 19 Part II - New Shaggy interview
Shaggy will perform on the Evolution night at the huge Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica tomorrow, along with other artists such as LL Cool J, Buju Banton, Morgan Heritage, Allison Hinds, Alaine, Da'Ville, Cherine, Christopher Martin (Shaggy's Big Yard stable mate), Etana and Iley Dread. I'm sure pictures and videos of the concert will be available later, but for now there's an interesting Shaggy interview of which I can't resist to post some pictures as well - doesn't he look so cool!?
Church Heathen The basic concept of Church Heathen are the experiences of a man who is not an avid church goer, but who is pressured by his church going girlfriend to come to church with her on Sunday. So he goes reluctantly and he sees there are a lot of things happening in the church although he thought it would be boring. He sits beside a woman who tells him what's going down in the church (infidelity, fraud, men who only go to church to get chicks, the girls who are jumping up and down praising at the lord who were at the dirty dance the night before [you can watch the video of the night before Shaggy went to church and the Sunday in church itself here]), so he finds it better than a soap opera and decides he'll be present again next Sunday. So the song is dealing with the issues going on in a candid way and it's not political although it could be. Shaggy says jokingly: "don't mess with me, since I can still do a remix".
Intoxication The new album is called Intoxication because the music feels intoxicating, not because Shaggy was intoxicated while making the album. It's his first album without an A&R ("thank God"). The album was made by Shaggy himself mostly and he wants to keep things this way before he goes back to a major [Shaggy parted ways with Geffen Records in October last year and is now with VP Records and his own label, Big Yard Music Group]. He's enjoing his freedom right now, Church Heathen has started off properly [it has been #1 for weeks on the Jamaican, NY, Miami and English dancehall charts to name a few] and everything is going the way he wants it to be going.
He proceeds to talk about his achievements in music (Shaggy has achieved more than any other artist in his genre of music, but he wants to regain the dancehall by connecting with the generation that has missed out on his dancehall hits like Big Up, Hot Gal, Girls' File, Mampie or his first #1 Oh Carolina and is on his way doing so by his underground new dancehall successes like Church Heathen, Ready Fi Di Ride and Rub a Dub We Want), his musical style and working with so-called superproducers like Scott Storch and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. More (interview video and article in Italian).
July 19 - Intoxication and Rototom audio and video download
Shaggy's new album Intoxication will be released in a few weeks from now (at least in Japan as far as I know) and the track lists and album covers
are finally starting to show up. There are two track listings and two album covers, so I'm not sure which one is correct - or even if either one is correct. They both can be right, the track names of the first one match the way the tracks were mentioned on radio stations before, the second one is also quite possible since a couple of radio stations that played the track formerly known as "Bonafide Girl" recently started to call it "Bonafide" (sorry, no playback links available). One of the bonus tracks differs, so maybe it's just two versions from two countries. Anyway, if you're interested take a look below.
Off the songs of the new album Church Heathen, Reggae Vibes, Intoxication,
All about Love, Mad, Mad World feat. Sizzla Kalonji and Collie Buddz, More Woman,
Bonafide feat. Rik Rok and Tony Gold, Those Days feat. Na'Sha and Woman's Scorn have been played on radio at least once and I like them all. I'm curious as to what the full tracks and other songs will be like!
BTW the album cover looks pretty cool! Shaggy's name is still about the
written in the same way, the letters are just a little longer, still looking cool. He has a new signature mark, which looks gothic and fits right in with the Intoxication font, his image lately and the clothes he's wearing on the cover. It's pretty cool how the letters from his name all come together in just one little image! (I'm not sure whether I can link it already though... )

July 15 - Rototom Sunsplash
Hey! I hope you guys enjoyed last night's live feed of Shaggy and Rayvon in concert at the Rototom Sunsplash festival in Osoppo, Italy. Rayvon (wow! what a voice this man has! and what a performance!) sang Damn, Games We Play, Bashment Party, the Rivers of Babylon and more songs with Shaggy among others. Shaggy (wow too! what a great, wild concert, I wish I'd been there for real!), who already made a big impression at his soundcheck turned into an improvised concert, performed in an exclusive set Wild 2Nite, Hot Gal, Big Up, Boombastic, Oh Carolina, Broadway, In the Summertime, Angel and many more (I'll update later and put the missing contents up again as well)
June 14 Part II - Live feed of the Shaggy & Rayvon show
Shaggy's and Rayvon's concert at the Rototom Sunsplash willl be broadcast live online through a video and audio stream. When the show is on, click on the banner below to watch or listen!
Groundation (who are playing now) and Tanya Stephens will perform first, after which Rayvon and finally Shaggy will take the stage. Don't forget to watch, if the soundcheck is any indication of what the concert will be like, it will be very much worth it!
{link will be removed after the show is over}
Shaggy did a soundcheck on Rototom earlier today, which was transformed into a small improvised concert and the people who were lucky to attend it say it was pretty hot. Shaggy performed some of his own songs as well as some reggae classics original by Studio One. He also did a lot of interviews and walked around the festival terrain, met up with a lot of people (he shook hands and took photos with all kinds of festival goers, also a couple of people in wheelchairs, which is pretty cool!) and was his laid-back very charming self all day. Pictures are added throughout the day in the Shaggy photo gallery. You can read more about Shaggy's day at Rototom so far right here and here.

Shaggy - the new Church Heathen remix video!!
The successor to the original Church Heathen video is definitely hot!! The video doesn't have sound but you can see what it's going to look like. There's a dance floor in Asylum, Shaggy, Ninja Man, the pastor, Spice a.k.a. sister Gwen, Sister Pam, Mad Michelle, Sadiki, Sample 6, Shelly Belly, Timeless and Shady Squad, the Portmore Dallas dancers, the Cadillac dancers, Doctor Bird and Black Blingaz (and I probably aren't mentioning a lot of names I should have mentioned if the video were any clearer). And oh yeah, Shaggy's hooded sweater is cool as always!
July 2 Part IV - Shaggy live at Nabilah in Napoli, Italy pics
I guess I can't resist posting this as well, but there's hardly a chance I'll update more today. Anyway, here's a good gallery of Shaggy, DJ Kue and DJ Filos at Nabilah in Napoli, Italy (6 pages, shot by Gianni C). It's from the same concert the 5 big videos in post III and June 30 Part III second video are from.
July 2 Part III - Shaggy live at Nabilah in Napoli videos
You're not going to believe this. Or actually, you are. Here's 160 MBs of Shaggy videos of Shaggy's performance at the Nabilah in Napoli, Italy on June 27th. There's Shaggy performing, DJ Kue dj'ing in the background... too bad they're not full tracks but enjoy!
I have some more updates of videos, pics and interviews but I guess I should give my hands some rest and not give it all away in one day. If you want more... come back soon!

July 1 Part II - Italian Shaggy interview
Shaggy will be back in Italy on July 14, for a performance at the Rototom Sunsplash Reggae Festival, for which a promo interview has been done. Shaggy talks about his career since Boombastic, the music he makes which has to be recognizably Shaggy music, going back to his dancehall roots and still experimenting with his songs and making them available to the mainstream audiences, leaving Universal Music which didn't support him and his artistic choices for his own label and VP Records, his newest single Church Heathen, and the good state reggae is in right now: Shaggy is proud to be a part of it.
Shaggy's 2007 album Intoxication will feature collaborations with Sizzla, Red Foxx, Screechy Dan, Rik Rok and Rayvon (and I guess also Na'Sha and Collie Buddz and maybe Akon) and has been produced by Robert Livingston, Tony Kelly, Christopher Birch and, naturally, Sting International. The release date of Intoxication might be kicked back a little though, if this article is right, since the interview says the album will be release just before the end of this year.
July 1 - Shaggy in the Caribbean 411 Magazine and live on TRL on Tour Napoli Part III
Shaggy is the cover boy of the May / June Caribbean 411 Magazine (I know, it's rather old, I rediscovered it in my last month's images file). The article is called "Shaggy: Setting the Stage".
